Daphne’s Friday Life Hack: The secret to cooking fluffy flavorful brown riceNovember 9, 2018
I always try to cook healthy and that to me means cooking with the least amount of processed foods. So, of course, I choose brown rice over white rice. But sometimes cooking good tasting and fluffy brown rice can be a challenge. I think after many failed attempts I have finally found the secret way.
First measure how much rice you want to cook. I usually make a large batch because I eat a lot of rice. So this recipe will be for 2 cups of brown rice. You will end up with about 4 cups of cooked rice.
Rinse and drain your brown rice. Place the rinsed rice into the pot or cooker. Add 4 and ¼ cups of water and 2 vegetarian or chicken bouillons. Then let the rice soak for at least 45 minutes or up to 3 hours. This soaking part is a key. This will make your brown rice fluffy. Adding the bouillons will add flavor. Once you are ready to start cooking, mix the rice so the bouillons spread a little.
Place the pan over medium high heat, let the water get to a mild boil and then lower the temperature so it is simmering. Keep it covered until all the water is gone and your rice is nice and fluffy. If you have a rice cooker, just switch it on and let it do its thing.
