Who has the best price on Halloween candy? We did the research and you get to read the results.

My favorite part of Halloween is the candy!  There are so many varieties, you can literally have it for every meal! But which store is going to get you the sweetest deals? I shopped Target, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco, and Smart & Final.

My favorite stores were obvious immediately: Smart & Final and Target got my vote for the biggest variety of candy, and it was organized, which made the trip even more pleasant. But will the price be just as impressive?

Let me start with Costco. They didn’t have much variety at all. In fact, they only had one bag of Halloween chocolates… but it is a huge bag that has everything from Nestle, Hershey and Mars chocolates. You’ll pay $15.99 for a 90-ounce bag, which gets you 150 pieces of chocolates. Do the math and you’re paying about $.18 per ounce. Not a bad price, but remember, you don’t really have options for fun-sized chocolates. Keep that in mind for the other comparisons.

First, a Mars variety pack that includes Milky Way and Twix. Smart & Final cost the most at $.24 per ounce. Walmart is a little cheaper charging $.21 per ounce. Both Sam’s Club and Target charge $.20 per ounce, so I must give the win to Target, since you don’t have to pay a membership fee in order to save.

Prefer Nestle? These Nestle bags include Crunch and Butterfinger. Again, Smart & Final is our most expensive option, charging $.23 per ounce. Target is two cents less per ounce, followed by Walmart at $.17 per ounce. Sam’s Club has the best price for this candy charging $.15 per ounce.

We can’t forget the chewy candy. Get a mixed bag of Skittles and Starburst for $.22 per ounce at Smart & Final. A penny less at Walmart, $.21 cents per ounce. And it’s $.20 per ounce at Target. But again, Sam’s Club has the best price charging $.14 per ounce. That’s a big chunk of savings. Just remember, to get the deals at Sam’s Club, you have to have a membership, which will cost you $45 for a year. In the end, they were still the cheapest.

But all the stores we shopped had huge bags, so you don’t have to shop Big Box stores and pay membership fees to get Big Box sizes. For our final breakdown, Sam’s Club was hands down my favorite when comparing warehouse stores. They were cheaper than Costco and Smart & Final and had lots of choices.

Smart and Final was our most expensive option. But if I had to choose, I’m going with Target. They had lots of variety, competitive pricing and they were easy to shop.
