In this episode of Smart Living, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mandy, the director of Entry Way, a remarkable organization in the Valley dedicated to helping the homeless find both housing and employment. Entry Way focuses on “situational homelessness”—people who have recently become homeless due to financial struggles, job loss, or other crises. Mandy shared how Entry Way’s unique approach provides a win-win solution: offering individuals a chance to upskill, secure entry-level positions in multi-family housing, and gain on-site housing.
Entry Way doesn’t just give handouts—it empowers people to regain control of their lives. Their program is designed to support individuals who have been homeless for less than a year, helping them get back on their feet quickly before chronic homelessness sets in. Participants in the program are provided with job training, interview preparation, and resume support. Once they secure employment, they are offered on-site housing with rent capped at 30% of their income, ensuring stability while they transition into their new lives.
One of the most inspiring stories Mandy shared was about Liliana, a single mother of three who, after making some tough choices, found herself living in her car. With Entry Way’s help, Liliana completed her leasing and sales training, secured a full-time job, and moved her family into a two-bedroom apartment. Her story is a testament to the resilience and determination of people in the program, as well as the profound impact of Entry Way’s support.
Entry Way is a wonderful example of how targeted help can break the cycle of homelessness and create long-term solutions for families and individuals. Their approach to empowering rather than enabling has already changed many lives, offering a sustainable path to stability.
