Welcome back to another episode of Smart Living! Today, I’m thrilled to introduce Angela Johnson, co-founder of FABRIC. This incredible organization is transforming the fashion industry by helping aspiring designers turn their concepts into wearable, tangible products. Let’s dive into the inspiring journey of FABRIC and how it’s making a significant impact on the community and the planet.

What is FABRIC?

FABRIC stands for the Fashion and Business Resource Innovation Center. It’s a non-profit fashion incubator that provides essential resources for apparel entrepreneurs. Whether you’re new to the fashion industry or a seasoned designer, FABRIC offers everything you need to bring your designs to life, from concept to production, all under one roof.

The FABRIC Mission

FABRIC was created to fill a gap in the fashion industry. Traditional fashion manufacturing often requires large minimum orders, which can be a significant barrier for small brands. FABRIC’s unique approach allows designers to produce their creations in small batches or even single units, making it accessible for anyone with a dream and a design.

Sustainable Fashion

One of the standout features of FABRIC is its commitment to sustainability. They use cutting-edge technology, including a sustainable printer that uses eco-friendly dyes and can print on fabrics like bamboo and hemp. This approach reduces waste and allows for on-demand manufacturing, ensuring that only what’s needed is produced.

A Hub of Innovation

FABRIC isn’t just about manufacturing. They offer a comprehensive range of services, including office spaces, event spaces, a wholesale sourcing library, classes, and branding services. Their facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, such as 3D avatars for virtual fittings and digital product passports for enhanced customer engagement.

The Community Impact

Since its inception in 2016, FABRIC has helped over 1,700 apparel entrepreneurs and donated $12.5 million worth of free and discounted programs and services. Their innovative model not only supports local designers but also promotes a more sustainable and ethical fashion industry.

Angela’s Journey

Angela Johnson, a fifth-generation Arizonan, has an impressive background in fashion design. After studying at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, she gained valuable experience working with renowned brands. Her journey led her back to Arizona, where she realized the need for a fashion incubator. Together with her co-founder Sherri Berry, Angela created FABRIC to provide the resources she wished she had when starting her own brand.

How You Can Help

FABRIC’s innovative model relies on community support. Whether through donations, sponsorships, or simply spreading the word, your contribution can make a significant difference. Visit their website to learn more about how you can support their mission.
