We’ve all been there: you buy a beautiful bunch of cilantro on Monday, and by Thursday, it’s a slimy mess. As your Smart Shopper, it hurts my heart to see good food—and hard-earned money—go to waste.

The 3-Week Herb Trick

To maximize your grocery budget, you have to maximize your storage. Here is my favorite “Freshness Hack” for parsley and cilantro:

  1. Trim: Cut the bottom of the stems off.
  2. Hydrate: Place them in a glass with just enough water to cover the stems.
  3. Protect: Cover the top loosely with a plastic bag and pop it in the fridge.

I have a bunch in my fridge right now that has stayed vibrant for over three weeks! Also, remember to keep those tomatoes on the countertop to preserve their flavor and texture.
