We all know kale is a nutritional powerhouse, but buying pre-packaged kale chips can break the bank. Most grocery stores sell a bunch of fresh kale for around $1.29, while a tiny bag of processed chips can cost five times that!
Making them at home isn’t just cheaper; it’s faster and lets you control the flavor. Whether you want them spicy, garlicky, or classic salty, this is the ultimate guilt-free snack.
The “Grocery Guru” Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch of fresh Kale
- 1–2 tbsp Olive or Avocado oil
- Seasonings: Garlic powder, salt, black pepper, oregano, and paprika (to taste).
Instructions:
- The Clean & Prep: Rinse your kale thoroughly. Pull the leaves away from the woody center stem (toss the stems in your compost or save for smoothies!).
- The Drying Secret: This is the most important step! Dry your leaves completely using a salad spinner or paper towels. If they’re wet, they’ll steam instead of crisping.
- Coat & Season: Place leaves in a large bowl or directly on a baking sheet. Drizzle with a little oil and sprinkle your spices. Massage the oil into the leaves so every nook and cranny is covered.
- The Bake: Spread them in a single layer on a baking pan. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes.
- The Flip: Turn the chips over and bake for another 10–15 minutes. Watch them closely—you want them light and crisp, not brown or burnt!
